Code 1012
Category: AudioMessage shown in BigBlueButton
Connection closed (ICE error 1012)
What it means
The audio ICE connection was closed unexpectedly (SIP.js bridge).
The client never shows this message: it only maps audio codes 1001–1010, so users see a generic audio error instead.
Likely causes
- Network change or drop during the call
- UDP blocked between browser and server
What to do
First, check who is affected.
- Only one or a few users: most likely a problem on the user's side, so follow the Student and Teacher steps.
- Everyone in one room: check that room/meeting (settings, meeting ended or recreated, room limits).
- Everyone in every room: most likely a server problem, so go to the Admin/server steps.
Students
Leave the audio and join it again; the client retries some audio errors automatically. Check your internet connection (Wi‑Fi signal or cable) before rejoining. Try another network (for example a mobile hotspot) to check whether your current network blocks the connection.
Server admins
If you use the SIP.js audio bridge, check FreeSWITCH: run sudo bbb-conf --check and look for SIP registration warnings. Open UDP 16384–32768 on the server firewall and test it with netcat as in the firewall guide. Set up a TURN server (coturn) and list it in /etc/bigbluebutton/turn-stun-servers.xml for users on restrictive networks.
