Code 1010
Category: AudioMessage shown in BigBlueButton
Connection negotiation timeout (ICE error 1010)
What it means
Audio connection negotiation timed out before ICE completed.
Likely causes
- High latency network
- TURN unreachable
- Server overload
What to do
First, check who is affected.
- Only one or a few users: most likely a problem on the user's side, so follow the Student and Teacher steps.
- Everyone in one room: check that room/meeting (settings, meeting ended or recreated, room limits).
- Everyone in every room: most likely a server problem, so go to the Admin/server steps.
Students
Wait 30 seconds and rejoin. Close other video calls using bandwidth. Leave the audio and join it again; the client retries some audio errors automatically. Try another network (for example a mobile hotspot) to check whether your current network blocks the connection.
Teachers
Ask affected participants to leave and rejoin the audio: the client treats this error as retryable.
Server admins
Check bbb-webrtc-sfu CPU, coturn logs, and increase ICE timeout only after fixing network path. Set up a TURN server (coturn) and list it in /etc/bigbluebutton/turn-stun-servers.xml for users on restrictive networks. Open UDP 16384–32768 on the server firewall and test it with netcat as in the firewall guide. Consider enabling public.media.audio.retryThroughRelay in /etc/bigbluebutton/bbb-html5.yml so 1007/1010 are retried through TURN (off by default; needs a working TURN server).
