Code 1007
Category: AudioMessage shown in BigBlueButton
Connection failure (ICE error 1007)
What it means
ICE negotiation failed while connecting microphone audio (often firewall or UDP blocked).
Likely causes
- UDP 16384–32767 blocked on client network
- Missing or misconfigured TURN server
- Symmetric NAT without relay
What to do
First, check who is affected.
- Only one or a few users: most likely a problem on the user's side, so follow the Student and Teacher steps.
- Everyone in one room: check that room/meeting (settings, meeting ended or recreated, room limits).
- Everyone in every room: most likely a server problem, so go to the Admin/server steps.
Students
Switch to a simpler network, allow mic permission, then rejoin. If on school Wi‑Fi, try mobile data once to confirm a firewall issue. Leave the audio and join it again; the client retries some audio errors automatically.
Teachers
Suggest wired Ethernet for the presenter. Share BBB network requirements with IT. Ask affected participants to leave and rejoin the audio: the client treats this error as retryable.
Server admins
Configure coturn (external IP, static-auth-secret) and set the same secret in /etc/bigbluebutton/turn-stun-servers.xml; open the UDP media range. Test TURN with the trickle ICE page: you should see relay candidates; if not, check the coturn logs. Open UDP 16384–32768 on the server firewall and test it with netcat as in the firewall guide. Consider enabling public.media.audio.retryThroughRelay in /etc/bigbluebutton/bbb-html5.yml so 1007/1010 are retried through TURN (off by default; needs a working TURN server).
