Code 1004
Category: AudioMessage shown in BigBlueButton
Failure on call (reason={reason}) (error 1004)
What it means
The audio call failed. With SIP.js it ended before ICE connected; with the default SFU bridge, audio playback failed.
Likely causes
- Restrictive network or firewall
- Browser could not play the audio stream
What to do
First, check who is affected.
- Only one or a few users: most likely a problem on the user's side, so follow the Student and Teacher steps.
- Everyone in one room: check that room/meeting (settings, meeting ended or recreated, room limits).
- Everyone in every room: most likely a server problem, so go to the Admin/server steps.
Students
Leave the audio and join it again; the client retries some audio errors automatically. Update your browser to a supported version: Chrome 87+, Firefox 80+, Edge 85+ or Safari 14+. Try another network (for example a mobile hotspot) to check whether your current network blocks the connection.
Server admins
Run sudo bbb-conf --check and fix the problems it reports. Set up a TURN server (coturn) and list it in /etc/bigbluebutton/turn-stun-servers.xml for users on restrictive networks. Run sudo bbb-conf --clean, then sudo bbb-conf --watch while reproducing the error to see log errors live.
