Code 3004
Category: ConnectionMessage shown in BigBlueButton
Connection is unstable. Please check your internet connection (code 3004)
What it means
Connected, but no data from the server and latency (RTT) is critical: the connection is unstable.
Likely causes
- Unstable or congested user network
- An unstable connection or a server that stops responding
What to do
First, check who is affected.
- Only one or a few users: most likely a problem on the user's side, so follow the Student and Teacher steps.
- Everyone in one room: check that room/meeting (settings, meeting ended or recreated, room limits).
- Everyone in every room: most likely a server problem, so go to the Admin/server steps.
Students
Check your internet connection (Wi‑Fi signal or cable) before rejoining. Try another network (for example a mobile hotspot) to check whether your current network blocks the connection.
Teachers
Pause for a moment: the client is reconnecting on its own.
Server admins
Check that https://<your-server>/bigbluebutton/rtt-check answers quickly with HTTP 200 from outside your network. Check the GraphQL components (bbb-graphql-server/Hasura and bbb-graphql-middleware) and their override files in /etc/bigbluebutton/. Run sudo bbb-conf --clean, then sudo bbb-conf --watch while reproducing the error to see log errors live.
