Transfer failed (error 1008)

What it means

Transfer from the echo test to the conference failed (legacy).

No code in BigBlueButton 3.0 raises this code; the message is a leftover from older versions.

Likely causes

  • FreeSWITCH misconfiguration or DTMF transfer not received

What to do

First, check who is affected.

  1. Only one or a few users: most likely a problem on the user's side, so follow the Student and Teacher steps.
  2. Everyone in one room: check that room/meeting (settings, meeting ended or recreated, room limits).
  3. Everyone in every room: most likely a server problem, so go to the Admin/server steps.

Students

Leave the audio and join it again; the client retries some audio errors automatically.

Server admins

If you use the SIP.js audio bridge, check FreeSWITCH: run sudo bbb-conf --check and look for SIP registration warnings. Collect logs with sudo bbb-conf --zip and ask on the bigbluebutton-setup group if the cause is unclear.
